Giving to Assumption Catholic School

The philanthropic support of Assumption Catholic School parents, alumni, grandparents, past parents, faculty, staff and friends is essential for the school to continue its mission of nurturing the whole child with a loving, supportive environment, high academic standards, traditional Catholic values and an extensive extracurricular program.

Each member of the Assumption School family has played an important role in shaping the school we have today.

Your philanthropic support of Assumption Catholic School is a gift, which allows students to share in a wonderful educational experience that serves as a foundation for the rest of their lives.

Annual Giving

The annual fund is the most important source of unrestricted funds available to Assumption Catholic School. It is the foundation of Assumption’s development program and is a significant source of revenue. Most donors begin their charitable giving relationship with the school through their support of the Annual Fund.

Funds from annual giving provide operating monies that support the ongoing work at the school and bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate a student. Your gift to the Annual Fund helps Assumption continue its history and mission of providing a well-rounded, quality education in a Christ-centered atmosphere to families in the Whatcom County community. A successful Annual Fund drive helps keep tuition as affordable as possible for students and their families.

Your generosity helps us provide financial assistance to those desiring an education at Assumption who may not be able to afford it. It also helps us provide resources for our teachers so that the instructional program is second to none, as well as advancing our co-curricular program.

Donations to the Annual Fund are fully tax-deductible, and can be paid by cash, check, credit card or through stock transfers. Pledges can be paid in monthly, quarterly, or annual installments.

The annual fund drive kicks off in September. In order to help with our budgeting process, we request your pledge commitment be made by December 31. Donations and pledge payments receipted by June 30 will be counted in the year’s annual fund totals.

Endowments & Scholarships

An endowed gift is a gift that keeps on giving — it provides the gift of an Assumption Catholic education for generations to come. Endowments exist in perpetuity and provide a stable future for Assumption Catholic School and our students.

Endowments provide a secure source of revenue for the school, in addition to tuition and the Annual Fund. Assumption Catholic School is committed to building a strong endowment in order to continue to deliver greater value and attain higher levels of quality than would otherwise be possible.

What is an endowment?
An endowment is a fund set aside permanently so that only a portion of the earnings is used on an annual basis. An endowed gift is one in which the original principal is never touched, only a percentage of the earnings are used for the purpose the donor has specified, such as tuition assistance, faculty enrichment or operational costs.

How does a stronger endowment help Assumption Catholic School?
An endowment links past, current and future generations by supporting and furthering Assumption’s educational mission. A strong endowment provides financial stability for Assumption Catholic School and helps us provide scholarships and financial aid to students who could otherwise not afford an education.

Who oversees the endowment?
The Assumption Catholic School Foundation’s Board of Directors oversees the invested endowed funds.

Can a gift be designated for a specific purpose?
Yes. Assumption Catholic School encourages and welcomes donors to participate in this process. An individual, group or organization may establish a new endowment named for the donor or in honor or memory of a person. The name specified by the donor will remain associated with the endowment fund in perpetuity.

How can I establish an endowed scholarship or other endowed fund?
Persons interested in establishing a named endowed fund or scholarship are encouraged to consult with the Development Office prior to making the gift so that the donor’s intentions are appropriately established in writing. Discussion of the endowed fund agreement on behalf of Assumption Catholic School shall be done with the knowledge, consent and signature of the school principal and in accordance with Catholic social teachings.

In designating a gift to the endowment for a specific purpose, the donor is encouraged:

  1. to describe the purpose for the gift as broadly as possible;
  2. to avoid detailed limitations and restrictions on the gift and/or scholarship;
  3. to provide a clause granting the institution maximum flexibility to make use of designated funds in a manner most consistent with the intent of the donor and with the interests of the school should programmatic or other developments make it impossible to apply the endowment proceeds to the purpose for which it was designated originally.

A donor may create a full tuition scholarship with a minimum commitment of $100,000 for Assumption Catholic School. This amount will be payable in full or at least an initial gift of $25,000. The award will not commence until the minimum commitment has been completed.

A donor may create a partial tuition scholarship fund to provide assistance for students with a minimum commitment of $25,000. This amount will be payable by the donor in full or at least $5,000 initially. The award will not commence until the minimum commitment has been completed.

Can I make a gift to an existing endowment or scholarship fund?
Yes. Assumption Catholic School accepts all gifts to existing endowed funds.
