ASSUMPTION STUDENTS PERFORM
“ROBINSON CRUSOE”
The public is invited to enjoy a whimsical stage version of “Robinson Crusoe,” performed by kindergarten through 8 th grade students at Assumption Catholic School on Friday, Apr. 25 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Apr. 26 at 12 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children.
Purposely varying from the plot of Daniel Defoe's novel, this version of “Robinson Crusoe” teaches the lesson that reading invites more than observation. Unlike TV and movies which provide every detail, a book allows the reader the luxury and the joy of imagination. The audience arrives on Crusoe's island years after he and his sole companion, a goat named Wilson , are shipwrecked. The island has turned into a tourist destination centered around the legend of Crusoe, and his story is told in flashback.
The play is a production of the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), whose touring Actor/Directors will rehearse with more than 50 Assumption students from Monday, Apr. 21 through Thursday, Apr. 24. Missoula Children's Theatre is the nation's largest touring children's theatre. It has been touring extensively for 30 years from Montana to Japan , and will visit nearly 1,000 communities this year with 30 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. In each location, the tour team arrives with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to help children put on the play. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children's stories and fairytales…a twist on the classic stories that audiences know and love.
Assumption Catholic School is located at 2116 Cornwall Ave. To purchase tickets for Robinson Crusoe or for more information call (360) 733-6133. Tickets are also available at the door.
