On Saturday, April 24, Assumption Catholic School attended the Washington State Elementary Chess Championships at Bellevue Community College. The turnout was a record 1014 players. Players could only attend if they qualified at local tournaments. Assumption qualified 22 players! Assumption had numerous outstanding individual efforts. Mikayla Chang took 6th place in the 2nd grade with 4 wins out of 5 games. Andrew Ronson scored 3.5 points, taking 18th place in the 4th grade. Joe Solomon scored 3 points, and took 22nd place in the 4th grade. Thomas Witecki went undefeated and for the second year in a row, he won the State Championship in the K-6 Division.

Our team finished 11th out of 122 schools. This is two places higher than last year's finish. We have had a very successful year, and we would like to thank all of our players for their hard work and efforts. Splendid work guys!
