U.S. History

Text: The American Nation Prentice Hall 2003

Primary and Secondary Sources

In class we will study the history of the United States and its people from ancient history to the present. We will base our study on the history text, other primary and secondary sources, and current events. Literature, art, and economic trends will be included in our study.

We are learning about some of thebig issues in American history using a Problem Based Learning Model (PBL). Students work together in collaborative groups to hypothesize about a scenario during a certain histroical period, determine what they know, ask questions, research, come up with a problem statement and present findings.

During the school year, each student will research, prepare, and present an individual project on a certain part of history.  The project includes a five page paper on the topic, complete with primary and secondary biblioographical information, a visual component, as well as a speech given to a group of people on the topic. The project may be based on a place, person, or a certain period of time. Students need to conference with me before they settle on a topic.
