Newbery
Award -- Originating in 1921, the
Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most
distinguished contribution to American literature for children
published during the preceding year. Honor books may also be
named.
Caldecott
Award -- Given since 1938, this
award is presented to the most distinguished picture book of the
year. Although only one book is chosen as the winner, the committee
also may select other titles, if they choose, that exemplify the
meaning of distinguished. These books are Caldecott Honor Books.
